Whiplash news 11/02/2008
Whiplash and cuts the only result of potentially fatal crash
A horrific accident was narrowly averted on Saturday as a car containing three women almost fell 15 feet over a pedestrian walkway in Sutton. All three were taken to hospital, having suffered whiplash injuries and cuts to the legs.
The car involved, a black Mercedes, left the road behind a police station, mounted a pavement, demolished pedestrian railings and crashed into a staircase leading to a narrow walkway high above a car park. The car itself was badly damaged in the crash, and the driver had to be stretchered to an ambulance.
A fire crew, returning from another call, was able to stop as it passed the car accident and make the area safe. One fire fighter commented that "Luckily, the iron works held the car up. But if it had happened 2 foot to either side, it would have fallen 15 feet."
Had that happened, any injuries could have been far more serious than the whiplash that is suspected, or even fatal. |
